Following on from an article we shared on Monday on our social networks, we would like to share with you our favourite bits of kit for high quality infrared and black and white photography.

There are lots of great ways to get started with shooting IR images, whether they be for high end fine art black and white prints or for research usage in museums.

The brand new Phase One IQ260 achromatic digital back is perfect for black and white photography as there is no IR cut-off filter mounted on the sensor, which means there are endless opportunities to create very distinct imagery.

Alternatively, the new Mamiya Leaf Credo WS 60 is a great infrared-capable digital back.

This WS (Wide Spectrum) back is based on the successful Credo 60 back. However there is one difference, the Infrared block filter has been replaced with a custom glass filter and the sensor’s position has been adjusted. This extends the captured spectrum of the back, enabling recording of Near IR images (~700nm).

By using different filters mounted on the lens you can achieve dream-like effects with false colors – especially in landscape images that include foliage. They can also be used for research and scientific purposes using UV lights.

Even your high megapixel Canon or Nikon DSLR camera, when used creatively can produce some exceptional results when used with our extensive range of Heliopan IR filters. These are exceptionally popular and are preferable over other manufacturers offerings due to the fact they are manufactured from Schott Glass (the same glass that Zeiss optics are made from) and solid brass mounts used in their construction. The 3 most common IR grades are available to buy on our website in all popular sizes, but if you require any of the other types, please get in touch with us and we will happily help you.Heliopan infrared filter
