GPSR for EU and Northern Ireland

On December 13th, 2024, new rules were introduced in the UK to ensure the products you buy online are safe. These rules, known as the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), require businesses to be extra careful about product safety. Here’s a simple breakdown of what this means for you:

What’s Changed?

The GPSR has a few key goals:

  • More Information: Businesses need to provide detailed information about their products, including safety instructions and clear contact details. This means you’ll have all the information you need to use products safely and to get help if you have any questions.
  • Someone in Charge: GPSR requires any business selling into the EU or NI from the outside to have a designated person, either in the EU or NI, who can handle safety concerns. This makes it easier to get your questions answered and any issues resolved.
  • Working Together: Businesses need to work closely with UK authorities to quickly address any safety issues that arise. This ensures that any unsafe products are dealt with promptly.

Which products do the new safety rules apply to?

  • New, used, repaired, or reconditioned: This means the rules cover pretty much any product you can buy, whether it’s brand new or has had a previous owner. It also includes items that have been fixed up or made to work again.
  • Exceptions: The GPSR applies to most consumer products, but it doesn’t cover things like medicine, food, living things, plant protection products, vehicles you don’t operate yourself, certain aircraft, and antiques.
  • Distance sales: This is important because it means the rules apply to things you buy online. If a website is trying to sell a product to people in the EU or Northern Ireland, it has to follow these safety rules.

What Does This Mean for You?

In short, these changes are designed to make your online shopping experience safer and more transparent. You can shop with confidence knowing that products meet high safety standards and that help is readily available if you need it.

However, if you are based in either the EU or NI, then currently we are not shipping to those areas but are working hard to make it possible.

What Does GPSR Mean for Existing Products?

It’s important to note that these new rules only apply to products placed on the market after the 13th of December 2024. Products already available before this date have been assessed under previous safety regulations and remain safe for use.
